Information nights for motivated students

Students looking to get a head start on the future can start at the High School at Moorpark College.

The free public school on the Moorpark College campus was founded by Moorpark Unified School District in 2000. Beginning as freshmen, students at the school take both high school courses and college-level classes as they work toward their high school diploma.

Students interested in enrolling can attend any of the school’s upcoming information nights that begin at 6 p.m. They’re scheduled for Tues., Oct. 24; Tues., Nov. 14; Tues., Jan. 23; Tues., Feb. 13; Tues., March 12; and Tues., April 9. A virtual session will be offered Tues., Dec. 5.

“Many students graduate from HSMC with all prerequisite college credits completed without having to take costly advanced placement tests,” said Daniel Wolowicz, the school district’s public information officer.

All college credits earned at the High School at Moorpark College are transferable to any university in the United States. Advanced placement courses, however, are often conditionally accepted based on test scores and universities’ admissions policies.

“The college credits earned at HSMC can cut tuition costs for four-year universities in half,” Wolowicz said. “That means less college debt and more financial freedom for graduates.”

The High School at Moorpark College is open to any student in Ventura or Los Angeles counties. Class sizes are often small and there is considerable schedule flexibility for juniors and seniors, who can take their classes in the morning, afternoon or evening.
