Lionel Messi is headed to Dignity Health Sports Park.
The Galaxy will open the 2024 Major League Soccer season Feb. 25 at home against Messi and Inter Miami CF. Messi, who arrived last summer in MLS, will be making his second trip to Los Angeles.
In September, Inter Miami traveled to face LAFC in front of a sold-out crowd, which included a long list of celebrities.
Last season, the Galaxy season opener was set for Feb. 25, but it was postponed due to a powerful rain storm.
The new season will actually open Feb. 21 with Inter Miami on the road against Real Salt Lake, making the trip to L.A, much shorter.
This will be just the second meeting between the Galaxy and Inter Miami. The teams met in 2021, with the Galaxy winning 3-2 on April 18.
The Galaxy will be making a return to the Rose Bowl next season. The annual July 4 game will again be versus rival LAFC after last season’s record-setting showdown.
The first El Trafico clash will take place April 6 at BMO Stadium and the third will be Sept. 14 at Dignity Health Sports Park.
Aside from LAFC, the Galaxy will also face their longtime rivals, the San Jose Earthquakes, three times. San Jose will host March 2 at PayPal Park and June 29 at Stanford University. The Galaxy home game will be April 21.
The Galaxy will play six games against teams from the Eastern Conference. Aside from Inter Miami, New York City FC and Atlanta United FC will travel to Carson. The Galaxy will make trips to Nashville SC, Charlotte FC and Chicago.
The Galaxy will play 28 of their 34 games against teams in the Western Conference. Players are expected to start reporting for training camp early next month.
MLS will again pause for the second edition of the expanded Leagues Cup tournament with Liga MX teams. The tournament will kick off July 26. The Galaxy’s last game before the break is July 20. League play will resume Aug. 24.
The schedule will mostly be played on the weekends, with just seven games played either on a Wednesday or Thursday.
The regular season will conclude Oct. 19 on the road against the Houston Dynamo.
