This year’s NFL MVP race is one of the more unique in some time, as there doesn’t seem to be one particular consensus pick.

While San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is the current betting favorite for the award, Tom Brady thinks one of his teammates is more deserving.

On the most recent episode of the “Let’s Go!” podcast, Brady argued that 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is “definitely” his pick for MVP.

“I remember the first time I actually got a glimpse of Christian was in the Rose Bowl,” Brady said. “He caught an angle pass against Iowa and ran for about a 75-yard touchdown. I was like, ‘Well, they’re not gonna catch him!’ … He was a dynamic player then. He is a dynamic player now, and I think all of what he’s done this year is a lot what he’s done in the past. It’s a different team with some different opportunities and they’ve been really dynamic on offense.

“So he is definitely in my mind the MVP favorite and according to his quarterback too, Brock Purdy, who says some amazing things about him. … And I know you’ll say, because you’re a great team player, the Super Bowl is the only thing that really matters. With the offseason that the running backs have, do you kind of feel like an award like that would be pretty nice?”

In his first full season with the 49ers, McCaffrey’s stats are eye-popping. He leads the NFL in rushing attempts (244) and yards (1,292) while adding 13 touchdowns on the ground.

For good measure, he’s also logged 57 receptions for 509 yards and a career-high seven touchdown receptions.

For what it’s worth, McCaffrey told Brady he would vote for Purdy and San Francisco left tackle Trent Williams before himself if he had the opportunity.

“If I had my vote, it’d be Brock [Purdy] as the MVP and Trent [Williams] would be the second in line,” McCaffrey said on the “Let’s Go!” podcast.

The 49ers (11-3) will take on the 11-3 Baltimore Ravens on Christmas night.
