Brock Purdy has blossomed in his second season with the San Francisco 49ers. Purdy, who is currently listed as the odds favorite to win the 2023 NFL MVP, leads all passers in multiple stats this year, including in passing touchdowns (29).
Many have attempted to downplay Purdy’s success with the 49ers by labeling him as a “system quarterback.” Kyle Hamilton has been watching film on Purdy in anticipation of the Baltimore Ravens’ upcoming road matchup against the 49ers, and he is unsure as to just why the second-year passer has garnered such critique.
“The word around the league is [Brock Purdy] is a system quarterback, and I just think that’s not true — just from what I’ve seen,” Hamilton said on Wednesday. “He’s making every throw that you can make as a quarterback. It’s on time, on target. [He] makes good decisions, he’s mobile, and he’s got a great cast around him at the same time.
“Yes, he’s really good, and props to him. It’s a pretty cool story, what he’s done now, and he’s in the MVP race.”
Hamilton is much looking forward to being put up to the test against the dynamic Purdy-led 49ers offense.
“So, it’s going to be a good challenge, but I’m excited to do it,” Hamilton said.
Purdy enters Week 16 leading the NFL in passer rating (119.0). On the other hand, the Ravens rank third in passer rating allowed (75.8).
