It’s tough for little tots to stay up until midnight to watch the ball drop on New Year’s Eve, but that doesn’t mean they should miss out on the festivities. So leaders at the popular Discovery Cube Los Angeles science museum in Sylmar hosted a fun-filled balloon drop celebration on Sunday, Dec. 31 at a kid-friendly hour.
When the clock struck 12 — noon that is — dozens of brightly colored balloons rained down to the delight of children and parents alike. And for families who still found noon a little ambitious, there was a second equally exciting drop at 3 p.m.
Guests toasted apple cider and ginger ale while showing off their best moves on the dance floor as a D.J. spun tunes. Many giggles were had, plenty of memories made and a few balloons popped in the making of this event.
The celebration also offered families an opportunity to explore the exhibits at the science center, including a race car physics lab, a broadcast TV studio, a planetary research station, a science of hockey center, a rock-climbing geology wall, and a small theater shaped like a helicopter where children can watch aerial footage of Los Angeles.
Discovery Cube Los Angeles, a sister museum to the Discovery Cube Orange County, is focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), science-based programs and exhibits to reach children. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at 11800 Foothill Blvd, Sylmar, CA 91342.
