Falcons fall in final tuneup before MCAL opener

Archie Williams High’s comeback effort fell short against Miramonte, 44-35, Wednesday in the Peregrine Falcons’ last girls basketball pre-league tuneup. Gia DeBok led the Falcons with eight points and 15 rebounds. Allegra di Carpegna added nine points, all in the fourth quarter. Archie Williams (4-11) is set to face Marin Catholic on Friday.

• Marin Catholic lost to Bishop O’Dowd, 53-50, in a non league challenge on Wednesday. Izzy McFadden led the Wildcats with 17 points, while Cecily Hadd added 14 points. Alyssa Spagnoulo tipped in six points for Marin Catholic (5-8), which got five points each from Madie Dayton and Jocelyn Gigounas.

Boys basketball

Novato stopped Point Arena, 68-61, Wednesday. The Hornets (6-8) are scheduled to play Terra Linda in Friday’s MCAL opener.

Women’s water polo

Marin Catholic alum and Novato native Toula Flakey has been named to Great Britains’s senior women’s team for the 2024 European Aquatics Water Polo Championships.The tournament, co-hosted by Croatia and The Netherlands, from Jan 5-16. Great Britain opens against Slovakia on Friday.
