CHICO — The Chico City Council will hold a rare Saturday afternoon meeting to discuss Safe Space Chico’s intake center.

The session, called as an emergency meeting, starts at noon in Chico City Council Chambers at 411 Main St.

Safe Space opened the intake center for its winter shelter, which rotates weekly among local churches, Dec. 17 at 101 Main St. — a vacant building that previously held the downtown 7-Eleven store. The city informed Safe Space that the location was not zoned for that use, and Friday, code enforcement fined the building owner. Safe Space moved its intake to the Our Hands sculpture outside city hall Friday evening.
