Fernando Tatis Jr. celebrated his 25th birthday by hitting a game-winning, two-run home run for Estrellas on Jan. 2 in the Dominican Republic Winter League playoffs.

Tatis was 3-for-4 on Jan. 2 with two doubles, the home run, two runs batted in, two walks and two runs scored. In six playoff games through Jan. 3, Tatis is 6-for-20 with two doubles, the home run, two RBIs, two stolen bases, six walks and four runs scored.

He is hitting .300 with a .462 on-base percentage and a .550 slugging percentage for a 1.012 OPS.

Minor league catcher Michael De La Cruz is 2-for-8 in the Dominican Republic playoffs for Licey.

Two Padres minor league relievers are pitching in the Mexican Pacific League playoffs. Left-hander Omar Cruz has worked 4 2/3 scoreless innings for his hometown Hermosillo team — allowing two hits and no walks with five strikeouts. Right-hander Manuel Castro allowed one hit with two strikeouts for his native Guasave.

Outfielder Tirso Ornelas, 23, a native of Tijuana, finished the MPL regular season hitting .254 with 10 doubles, five homers, 22 RBIs and three stolen bases for a .360/.373/.734 slash line for Navojoa.

Cruz, 24, had a 1–2 record with a 4.00 earned run average and a 1.444 WHIP in 14 outings (five starts) — giving up 12 runs on 27 hits and 12 walks with 28 strikeouts in 27 innings. Castro, 21, was 0–1 with a 2.00 ERA and a 1.389 WHIP in 15 games (one start) — giving up five runs (four earned on 12 hits and 13 walks with 18 strikeouts in 18 innings.

Padres outfielder Jose Azocar, 27, has raised his batting average to .274 for Caribes in the Venezuelan Winter League. He is 31-for-113 in 32 games with eight doubles, a triple, a home runs, nine RBIs, two stolen bases and 19 runs scored with a .323/.389/.712 slash line.

Right-handed reliever Bradgley Rodriguez, 20, is 2–0 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.600 WHIP in 21 relief appearances for La Guaira in Venezuela — giving up 13 runs (12 earned) on 16 hits and 16 walks with 21 strikeouts in 20 innings.

The only other member of the Padres’ family still active in winter ball is 23-year-old infielder Jarryd Dale, who is playing with his native Melbourne in the Australian Winter League. After 21 games, Dale is hitting .324 (22-for-68) with four doubles, a home run, seven RBIs, three stolen bases and eight runs scored for a .361/.427/.788 slash line.
