WATSONVILLE — Retirement is not as simple as leaving a workplace, embarking upon luxurious vacations and taking up new physical activities.

As with everything, planning is important, and elder law attorney, author and TV host Rajiv Nagaich will discuss some of these tips in a virtual author talk at the Watsonville Public Library, hosted by the Library Speakers Consortium.

In addition to being a senior partner with the law firm Johnson and Nagaich PS in Federal Way, Washington, Nagaich is an author of several books about retirement planning including “Master Your Future” and “Your Retirement: Dream or Disaster.” He also hosted two TV specials that have been carried by PBS affiliates: “The Path to Happily Ever After” and “Master Your Future.” He is a three-time NAELA Pacesetter Award winner, a commissioner at the Law and Aging Commission at the American Bar Association, founding partner of Life Point Law and the CEO of AgingOptions, an educational consultant based out of Washington state that seeks to provide a blueprint for retirement.

According to the AgingOptions website, Nagaich was inspired to pursue his field after feeling the traditional retirement plans crafted by lawyers and financial planners were imperfect and tend to “fail 70% of the time.”

“That’s a terrible track record, one we don’t accept from any other industry, so Rajiv decided to do something about it,” per the website. “He created LifePlanning, a groundbreaking retirement planning system that delivers a coordinated blueprint that integrates all the variables in the aging equation.”

The LifePlanning approach brings together legal, financial and housing issues together to prevent retirees from going broke or going into institutionalized care. Nagaich will discuss what leads to retirement plan failures and how others can prevent them from happening.

The discussion is 11 a.m. Jan. 23. To register and ask questions of Nagaich, visit Libraryc.org/watsonvillelibrary/37605. The event is being delivered in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium.
