He accumulated 803 tackles and 11 sacks in his playing career. The news of his promotion comes just a day after owner Robert Kraft and former coach Bill Belichick announced they had mutually agreed to part ways.ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who suggested Thursday that Mayo would be a leading candidate, said Friday that the 37-year-old would be formally introduced as the team’s coach next week.
